William J. Roue was working full-time at his family’s soda pop manufacturing business in Halifax, Nova Scotia when he was studying by candlelight to become Canada’s first naval architect. In fact, he was not a ‘full-time naval architect’ until several years after the success of Bluenose, in the early 1930s, by then in his 50s. The booklet below is the story of the family business, Roue’s Carbonated Waters Ltd., as told by Joan Roue, great-granddaughter of W.J. Roue.
